There is a little Island off the Coast of Maryland, called Assateague Island. The ponies live in herds, managed by the park, where ocean bathers and ponies can be seen laying in the sand, and swimming in the ocean. The ponies once thought to have been washed ashore in a sea-wrecked Spanish ship, the myth is sometimes followed up with farmers sending their herd to graze and fatten up, without the use of fencing.
Summer season will delight any child or horse lover. Off seasons bring in flocking sea birds, which live in dominion with the ponies. A special treat for a family and wondering travelor.
